My life as a dancer began at the age of four, but my mother has always reminded me that I danced long before my first ballet class.
My passion for performance has never ended. I continued to study dance and perform, and eventually became a professional dancer. My drive to dance allowed me to live out the magical moments I had envisioned having onstage. Once my feet touched the stage, I was no longer pretending to be dancing something, I was really living the part. I never felt better or more alive than those moments when I was dancing onstage. As a professional ballerina I came to realize that not all dancers felt as I did when performing. Some dancers even expressed that they could live their whole lives without ever setting a toe on the stage. This concept seemed strange to me, so I investigated why. In the traditional method of teaching ballet, the student is asked to execute several technical steps without any creativity or expression. This idea truly goes against the nature of dance. Dance is an art form filled with stories, emotions, and reasons for every movement, whether it is to reflect the music through movement, or to portray a true story, or to tell a fairy tale. So why, in the very early stages of teaching dance, do we as teachers ignore performance when it is such an important aspect of ballet. This was the birth of the M.E.G technique and Tiny Toes. My role as a teacher is to give the whole gift of dance. Even to this day the refection I see in the mirror is my audience. When you open the pages of my book I hope that you will dance on the stage with my students and experience the love of dance that I have. |

Specifically designed for children ages 2–5, TINY TOES: A Creative Movement Class for Young Children focuses on learning dance through the M.E.G. (Movement, Expression and Growth) technique developed by author Morgan Grubola. This enchanting book allows children to use their imaginations to dance with fanciful animals of all shapes and sizes on an elaborate stage.
Healthy bodies and cognitive growth are closely linked in young children, so engaging them in movement is beneficial on many levels. To activate both their bodies and minds, Tiny Toes offers 19 different exercises designed to develop strength and flexibility, promote intellectual growth, and encourage performance skills in young students. The book, which includes a 21-track music CD, outlines instructional strategies for parents and teachers, as well as exercises focusing on stretches and axial and locomotor movement. Exciting stories about the make-believe world of the stage, produced in beautiful full-color illustrations, describe the dance steps and provide inspiration for the young dancer in your child.
